We choose a washing vacuum cleaner - characteristics and possibilities
A washing vacuum cleaner is a necessary and even irreplaceable thing in the household. Firstly, because with the acquisition of such an apparatus the number of cleanings will be significantly reduced, and the quality will increase several times. Secondly, washing devices not only purify the air in the room, but also moisturize it perfectly. And thirdly, such an assistant, unlike his dry "brothers," spends water and electricity sparingly.
Vacuum cleaner with wet cleaning function
Despite the fact that models with the function of wet cleaning outwardly very similar to the usual portable vacuum cleaners, they are structurally distinctly different. First of all, the washing unit is equipped with a tank for clean water and a reservoir for used liquid, as well as additional protection of the engine against moisture.
Unlike the technique with water filters, in which dry dirt and dust pass through a container with water (aquafilter) and precipitate, the work of the washing machine is built on a completely different principle. Water with special detergents or in a pure form from the tank (up to 10 L) passes through a flexible tube that is attached to the main hose from the outside and, at a pressure of about 2, the bar is sprayed onto the object.
Then the liquid is sucked back by a powerful jet of air and enters another, deeper reservoir. Unlike manual cleaning, when after the first squeezing of the rag the water in the bucket becomes dirty, the washing vacuum cleaner uses only pure water, while it is economical enough. Judge for yourself: to clean a three-room apartment is enough 6 l liquid. When the container with dirty water is full, the indicator light will light up, and in case of your carelessness the emergency engine shutdown will work.
At the end of wet cleaning, you need to take care of the vacuum cleaner - drain dirty water, rinse nozzles, hose and tanks and thoroughly dry them, since moisture and heat are the most comfortable environment for the propagation of harmful microorganisms. But do not worry about time and labor: the whole procedure will take about 10-15 minutes. At the same time, we do exactly the same with a bucket and a rag, which after each cleaning require high-quality washing and drying.
The vacuum cleaner not only vacuums
In addition to wet and dry cleaning, washing machines can perform a number of additional useful tasks. To the obvious pluses is that during operation the device effectively moistens the air in the room. Dust, which is in the atmosphere, quickly becomes heavy and settles, without harming our lungs. This technical capability is difficult to overestimate, especially in the hot season and winter, when heaters and batteries dry the air.
In addition, the vacuum cleaner will easily eliminate the unpleasant odor with the aid of a flavor that is added to the washing solution; Quickly clean the clogged sink or draining the tub; Wash windows; instantly collect the liquid poured over the floor.
Such a helper at home is simply irreplaceable. However, please note that not everything in the house can survive such a tough cleaning: polished furniture can fade and varnish crack; plywood will be swollen or completely peel off; carpets on a natural jute basis, woolen or silk, as well as with a long nap is also risky to clean this way. The moisture that remains between the villi during wet cleaning does not disappear completely, and eventually bacteria begin to multiply in carpets, an unpleasant smell appears. But do not worry: the problem will be solved by vacuum cleaners with the possibility of steam cleaning, and it is in all multifunctional devices.
After such cleaning, the carpet will be almost dry, since instead of water, steam is used here, heated by the steam generator to a temperature of 100-150 ° C, which is released at the pressure of the 2,5-4 bar through the spray nozzle. Dirt is effectively separated, and moisture is absorbed together with the dust back. Such cleaning is ideal for dealing with old grime, it is effective in cleaning surfaces made of ceramics, stone, marble, tiles, sanitary equipment, curtains, clothes, etc. However, the presence of a steam generator in a vacuum cleaner significantly increases its cost.
The size for the vacuum cleaner all the same matters
Since washing vacuum cleaners contain two tanks - for clean and waste water - they are quite heavy. If you have a small dwelling, it is better to purchase models with a smaller tank capacity (for a 1-2-room apartment, up to 3 l capacity is enough). This will allow you to significantly save on the cost of the device.
The dimensions and maneuverability of the vacuum cleaner are also largely dependent on the location of the tanks in the unit housing. Models with vertical placement of tanks are heavier and slower than with horizontal ones. However, the first are more capacious (for example, the Bravo 20S Aquafilter from Thomas is designed for 3,6 l of cleaning solution and for 20 l spent) and suitable for cleaning large apartments and private houses.
VAX is one of the few that places tanks in its vacuum cleaners only vertically (there is a container for clean water on top). To fill in shampoo or water, you need to open two locks on the body and remove its upper part, the cover under which the engine is located. But to drain the dirt will have to remove not only the lid, but also the upper tank.
Manipulations of this kind are not very convenient. And the vacuum cleaner itself turns out to be rather cumbersome (for example, the VAX 5161 SX model has dimensions 32x56x32 cm) - not in every apartment you can find a place to store it, not to mention the hose and other accessories. This technique is considered semi-professional and is designed for cleaning large-scale areas.
Among the compact models of the vertical type for home use, the “container in container” design is perfect - a removable detergent tank is installed inside the dirt collection tank (the lower part of the case plays the role of the latter). To fill the vacuum cleaner with water or a washing solution, it is enough to remove the upper part of the housing from the latches and remove the tank. During operation, the suction dirty water fills the remaining volume of the tank. Such models can be found at Karcher, Thomas and others.
Bosch, De'Longhi, Philips companies offer very easy-to-use cylinder vacuum cleaner options. An additional tank in the form of a removable cartridge is attached to the outside of the case, which can be removed quickly enough and filled with the required amount of liquid. So, you don’t have to drag the vacuum cleaner to the tap.
In horizontal type apparatuses, liquid tanks have a small volume. They are located next to each other and are most often combined into cassettes. Externally, such vacuum cleaners are no different from ordinary dry ones; they are compact, manoeuvrable and suitable for small urban apartments. It is worth paying attention to the Twin Aquafilter models from Thomas, Aquill from De'Longhi, Triathlon 4 d 1 from Philips. Moulinex supplied its models with a recovery tank: in it, the waste solution is cleaned and then fed back to the pump. This allows you to reduce the dimensions of the equipment, but significantly complicates its design.

Cleaning of air during harvesting
Undoubtedly, washing vacuum cleaners fight home dust 10 times better than their dry "brothers". Firstly, because with wet cleaning, small dust particles become heavier and better neutralized. Secondly, getting into the water compartment, 95% of the dust gets wet and settles, and the survivors »5% are retained in the final HEPA filters (High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter, which means -high-efficiency air purification filter). Of course, the more degrees of protection and filtration levels in the instrument, the purer the exhaust air and the higher the cost of the vacuum cleaner.
It should be noted that all manufacturers are working to effectively purge the "exhaust" air, but the greatest successes in this industry were achieved by the engineers of the German company Thomas, giving their devices a patented aquafiltration system.
The design of this filter provides cyclonic and intensive movement of water, dust and air. First, air passes through an aquafilter that holds 96% of dust, and then enters a turbulent water filter where it mixes with water with the help of vortex flows. Secondary purified air passes through a thin disperse filter made of a special foamed anti-allergenic material, which detains the smallest particles of dust of 0.3 micron size.
In the field of innovation, LG will not be fair. which was the first to use filters with technology NAN0-Silver, combining the antibacterial properties of pure silver and modern nanotechnology. Silver purity 99,99% is subjected to electrolysis, during which positively charged
ions. They bind to tissue fibers at the molecular level, providing maximum sterilization and an additional antibacterial effect.
But almost all leading manufacturers managed to reduce the noise level of a washing vacuum cleaner to the performance of a washing or dishwasher. In some models, the tanks are located above the engine and serve as an additional sound absorber - this is how, for example, the Collecto RB 860 units from Rowenta and Twin Aquafilter from Thomas work.
Details matter
Each washing vacuum cleaner usually comes with 5-7 additional nozzles. All of them have a different shape and purpose: two or three - for wet cleaning, the rest - for dry. The quality of cleaning largely depends on the device of nozzles.
The main brush, the size of which is about 20 cm, is suitable for normal dry cleaning. It is very convenient when the height of the pile is adjusted in it. To remove dust from uneven surfaces (radio equipment and computers), use a brush of round or oval shape with a diameter of 5-7 cm with a soft bristle around the circumference. The pile cleans the dust, leaving no scratches. Together with such a device, a crevice nozzle comes with which it is easy to get into hard-to-reach places: radiators, blinds, narrow cracks between the furniture. It is also convenient to clean plinths and cornices.
For wet cleaning, usually use a large nozzle for carpet with an adapter for hard surfaces or a small one for upholstered furniture. Inside both there is a built-in mechanism that sprays liquid with a washing solution under pressure.
A standard kit also includes a turbo brush for deep cleaning of carpets and furniture. If your apartment has a pet, this device will become an indispensable assistant. The mechanism has a rotating head, which "scrub" the wool from the napped surfaces.
Of course, every manufacturer tries to supply their vacuum cleaners with some original patented nozzle. So, VAX offers a Fiber-Flow device, which is firmly pressed to the surface to be cleaned and forms a vacuum in the center of the contact area (due to the powerful suction action of the vacuum cleaner from 230 to 275 aeroW), thanks to which dust, water and dirt are drawn into the hose. In addition, in this case, more water evaporates and the surface dries faster. Therefore, this system allows you to more carefully collect the spent liquid.

VAX offers the Hydrodry nozzle for hard floors. In it, the cleaning solution is evenly distributed over the sponge, and special bristles raise dust and dirt, compacting them into lumps. Using rubber scrapers, this mixture is sent to the suction chamber, from where it is removed by a stream of air. The direction of movement of the nozzle in this case does not matter: it can be moved both forward and backward - water is supplied to the surface to be cleaned and collected in any case.
Philips vacuum cleaners Triathlon FC 6843, FC 6842 and FC 6841 have a special double-nozzle. The principle of its action is the same as in a washing machine that rotates laundry, mixing it with water, detergent and air. The latter is absorbed directly through the villi of the carpet into 14 air channels (7 in the front and 7 in the back of the device). Under the influence of an air stream, the villi straighten and are easier to clean from dirt. At the same time, a detergent solution is finely dispersed from above under a pressure of 3 bar. Cleaning takes place regardless of the direction of movement, and it is not necessary to exert force by pressing the nozzle to the floor.
And since the contact time of the carpet with the washing mixture is minimal, it will last longer.
Rowenta supplies its machines with Swip and Wip dry-cleaning brushes: the Swip brush is designed to fight dust in hard-to-reach places (computer keyboard, blinds, etc.), and the Wip foam nozzle is capable of processing scratch-sensitive surfaces (computer screens and TV screens , polished furniture, paintings, etc.).
The quality of the cleaning also depends on the shape of the nozzle. For example, Thomas offers housewives a patented, trapezoidal device with a sharp, flat working insert that penetrates deep into carpets. In this case, the nozzle moves in only one direction - towards the user, since the injection nozzle is located in its rear part. A cleaning solution under a pressure of 4 atm is finely dispersed on the surface to be cleaned, dissolving and washing away the dirt, which is then sucked into the apparatus together with air. Using this technology, carpet is restored: the pile is stretched and straightened, due to which the structure of the carpet is restored, and hence its dust-absorbing properties. Due to the narrow nozzle, the air flow rate is high, so the waste fluid collects quickly and there is very little remaining water on the carpet. In some techniques, the washing solution is heated to clean it more effectively.
The complete set of all Thomas models includes a plunger for cleaning clogged sinks and a Quattro spray nozzle for washing windows and mirrors.
Before buying a vacuum cleaner, we recommend testing the attachments of the model you like in the test mode. And also pay attention to where and how they are stored. Much more convenient when they are in the device itself, in a special compartment. Then during the cleaning they do not have to search all over the apartment. And the place for their storage is not always easy to find.

Vacuum control
Despite the large weight and slowness, it is easy and convenient to operate the washing vacuum cleaners. Most modern models are equipped with a telescopic sliding tube, and control buttons are located on the handle, the principle of which can be divided into three types: wired, infrared and radio control. The first is the most affordable and common. Here all the wires are hidden inside the hose, which is very convenient and safe. The only drawback is that the hose is quite heavy. The second type of control works on the principle of a television remote control, on batteries. And the last, innovative type - radio control. Its main disadvantage is the high price of the device.
Wash vacuum cleaners
The biggest minus of washing vacuum cleaners is weight. And no matter what innovations manufacturers embody in their offspring, in this matter such models will still lose to their dry colleagues in the workshop.
However, if you choose between a washing and dry apparatus, you can accept this minus.
Also you need to take into account that for the operation of the unit in wet mode, special non-foaming shampoos are required, and therefore, additional expenses are waiting for you. It is important to know that the use of conventional detergents without labeling "For washing vacuum cleaners" can disable the appliance.
To purchase consumables it is desirable to use the same manufacturer as the equipment itself.
Moreover, each company strives to standardize its products in such a way that cleaning products are suitable for many models, including the future generation. But do not be confused by these difficulties: you should not be too zealous with the use of chemicals, since about 40% of the special solution will remain on the surface and will become dust when it dries. Therefore, it is better to use chemicals in emergency conditions - it is preferable and cheaper to carry out wet cleaning with clean water.

Recommendations for choosing a washing vacuum cleaner
In case you know exactly which functions, modes, nozzles, tanks, etc. you need for high-quality cleaning, it's time to decide on the brand.
If the market of dry vacuum cleaners is full of brands, then in the segment of washing machines such a diversity is not observed. Excellent technology is offered by Karcher (Germany), which specializes exclusively in cleaning machines. However, the price category here is quite high. Noteworthy companies are Thomas (Germany), Bissell (USA). Zelmer (Poland) and VAX (Great Britain).
By the way, the world's first washing unit was created just by VAX. It was the British who decided to adapt professional equipment to home conditions, releasing a household model. Prices for these manufacturers are very different - it all depends on the set of functions you need.
For example, Thomas's Bravo 20S will humidify the air, collect spilled liquids, clean carpets and upholstered furniture, and Twin T2 Parquet Aquafilter from the same manufacturer will wash the windows and do a great job cleaning hard floors such as laminate and parquet. High-class equipment for wet cleaning can be found at Ariete, De'Longhi, Euroflex, Soteco (all - Italy); Bosch, Miele, Siemens (all - Germany); Dyson (England); Electrolux (Sweden); Gorenje (Slovenia); LG, Samsung (both Korea); Moulinex. Rowenta (both from France); Phillips (Netherlands); Zepter (Austria) and many others.
