Two years ago we decided to change the roof. It is gable and covered with galvanized iron. The husband suggested to make at the same time in the attic a greenhouse for growing seedlings. I thought and agreed.
We covered the roof with new galvanizing, except for half of one slope - the southern one. Instead of iron installed on rafters frame with glass. Partly used frames from old windows, part made up by the husband. Did by type of greenhouse frames with double glass. All joints are well sealed. In our attic greenhouse it is always light in the day, because there are no barriers to sunlight. And to air is not a problem.
The husband has made for boxes "pedestal" height 80 see Boxes made spacious. I sometimes joke that we have in the attic - the second garden. Very much helps our family greenhouse in the spring, when it's time to grow seedlings. And in winter on our table always fresh greens - from the attic. Only the plants need to be lightened.

    How I grow seedlings
I had to radically change the entire technology of growing seedlings. There were many trials and mistakes, but at last everything settled.
In a hardware store I buy a plastic mesh with 7 × 7 mm cells. I cut it into pieces 25 cm long and 10 cm wide. From one meter of this material I get 40 pieces. On the basis of building materials I collect advertising magazines. And from their covers with hard glossy paper I cut strips 10 cm long and 2 cm wide. I wrap the blank of the mesh in a cylinder, at the junction from the inside I put the strip in and fasten it all together. And then from the remnants of the covers in the same way I make walls for these cups.
Next stage. Of dosokshek thickness of 1,5 cm and a width of 6 cm I make two boxes with the size of a window sill. I cover them with polyethylene film so that its edges hang out. I put the boxes on the windowsill, I place the cups in them, I fill them up to half the ground and put them into a pair of previously soaked seeds. Above them I fix a grid of wire for plaster, from below I hang a fluorescent lamp and a mirror film used for gluing on windows. Thanks to this design, light from the street, reflected from the film, evenly illuminates all the plants, and the same thing happens in the evening when the lamp is on.
I care for the seedlings, as usual. When the leaves close, I water it not in glasses, but in boxes.
In mid-April, as usual, I transfer seedlings to the cottage and put in a greenhouse. I already talked about this, but not yet about a technical innovation. But the fact is that I now have a greenhouse with electric heating. On the radio market, I bought a cheap thermostat, set it up so that it would turn on when the temperature in the greenhouse drops to 10 °, and I use a heating panel as a heating element, which is now sold in different forms in all stores (or flea markets). It consumes little energy, but it heats well. There was only a problem with the ventilation of the greenhouse, when in summer the temperature in it rises to 40 °. This year I want to try out the design of the automatic machine I designed to open the transom. I will unsubscribe about the results immediately.

Any seedlings, grown in peat-potted pots, must be freed from the dishes. Remove the pot from the soil coma, or else the new roots will be clamped with peat walls and will not come out. In many allowances for gardening, gardening, vegetable growing, I met recommendations - planting seedlings with pots. But this is a false recommendation. It was developed by the inventors of peat pots specifically to promote the product to the market. Our practice has shown another. Seedlings, planted in pots, always develops worse than the one with which the "dishes" were previously removed. You can see for yourself. Plant one plant in a pot, while others are free. You will see that the result will be in favor of freedom.
In autumn, when digging a garden bed, you will see that the peat pot is not rotted and has not dissolved in the bed, as the instruction promised.
In the 70-s of the last century, the tephechnitsa NF Frolova from the sovkhoz "Lensovetovskiy" became the first professional among professionals to break down the humus pots before planting seedlings. She received the largest harvest of cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes and was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor. It would seem, a trifle, but he convinces that there are no trifles in working with plants.
Do you know how to properly break pots? Before potting seedlings (zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, pumpkins, tomatoes, etc.), you must dip the pot into the water. It will be saturated with moisture, will become soft, and now it is easy to remove it from the soil coma. If it has already grown roots, you will have to break the walls.
