Nontrivial ways of warming the balcony with your own hands

Unusual ways to warm the balcony
The warming of the balcony opens up new possibilities for using useful space. But it happens that the standard methods of thermal insulation are not suitable. For some reason or other, we have to look for alternative methods of warming.
For the most part, they can not compete with a full thermal insulation, but under narrowly defined conditions, such a result can be considered effective.
Liquid insulation for the balcony
To insulate the loggia in traditional ways, you will have to sacrifice space. The thickness of thermal insulation structures using mineral wool is usually 6-8 cm. Warming of two opposite walls, respectively, will take at least 12 cm of useful space. For small rooms, such losses are very noticeable. In this case, liquid heaters come to the rescue. The method is unusual, not the cheapest, but it saves space.
The first thing to consider when choosing a liquid thermal insulation, is the way it is applied. The thing is. that there are liquid formulations (penoizol) filled with pre-planned voids within the walls of the building.
They are not suitable for warming balconies. Good indicators of heat and sound insulation have compositions that are applied by spraying. They can be professional, that is, they will have to use special equipment, therefore, the cost will be high. But there are compositions for home use, the price of which is several times lower. They are sold in tubes. One package is enough for 1 m '. After application and polymerization, a sufficiently strong foam spout is formed, which provides high-quality thermal insulation.
Another option is to use so-called heat-insulating paint. Apply the coating with an ordinary roller or brush in several layers on almost any surface. An important condition - the substrate should be cleaned of dirt and rust. There are compounds that can be applied even in severe frosts.
Manufacturers promise that the layer of paint in 1-2 mm according to its characteristics corresponds to a five-centimeter layer of mineral wool. But not all specialists agree with this, putting serious doubt on the effectiveness of the paint. because the thermal conductivity of the material depends on the amount of air that is in it. Accordingly, the lower the thickness of the insulation layer. In a layer of thickness 1 mm air is clearly not enough. Manufacturers respond to this simply: they say, these are modern technologies - microspheres create a heat-insulating effect. Judging by the reviews of ordinary people, far from nanotechnology, the effect of heat-insulating paint is, in the room it really gets warmer.

Eco-friendly insulation for the balcony
If the ecological compatibility of the heater is a matter of principle, there are many options. They are based on paper, sawdust or algae. But here you need to be ready and decent losses of the area - this is the price of the ecoidea.
Ecowool is a heater of paper and cardboard waste. The material is considered natural, although it was not without antiseptics added to it. But it is the processed paper crushed to the desired state that has moisture resistance, vapor permeability, good sound insulation.
Quality insulation requires a layer of ecowools of at least 15 cm. For walls adjacent to warm rooms, for example a heated neighbor's loggia, 5 cm will suffice. If high values of thermal insulation are not required, you can recapture several centimeters due to the smaller thickness of the layer.
For large volumes of thermal insulation work using this material, special equipment can not be avoided, since the insulation is blown into the cavities by an air gun. In the case of a balcony or loggia, work can be done manually. Although losses in the quality of insulation can not be avoided altogether, with the right approach they will be minimal. For balcony insulation eco-friendly will have to build a frame and trim it. for example, plasterboard. The material must be laid tightly in empty cells.
Speaking about insulation from paper, you can not ignore corrugated board. If the source material is sufficient, thermal insulation can significantly save. To do this, you need to prepare panels of the right sizes and shapes from several layers of corrugated cardboard. You need to close the ends well, for example, with an adhesive tape. Installed and hermetically connected insulation can be sewed with suitable material. Naturally, this method is rather temporary, as the cardboard does not possess the qualities necessary for construction materials: it is subject to the influence of moisture, and it can not be called fireproof.
Dried algae - building material has long been known, however, only to those who live by the sea. Kamka in the modern form has become a product of the combination of traditions with new technologies. As a result, an eco-friendly insulation was obtained.
Due to special processing the material has become incombustible and resistant to decay and the appearance of fungi. In addition, it is able to saturate the air with useful substances. Its thermal insulation efficiency is not as high as. for example, in mineral wool. so you need to lay the stone in several layers. Hence the minus - tangible loss of the area, and the material weighs a lot.
Arbolite - another non-standard solution for warming the balcony or loggia. Thermal insulation arbolite is a plate thickness of 5-7 cm. They are made of sawdust, straw and cement with the addition of liquid glass and other compounds that improve its performance. Arbolite "breathes", it is not flammable, but due to the availability of materials it is inexpensive. Big minus - it absorbs moisture, but this problem is solved with the help of waterproofing materials, impregnated and plaster.

Lightweight insulation for the balcony
When it comes to warming not loggias, but balconies, you have to take into account the weight of the selected material. If lightness is important, it is not necessary to talk about the naturalness of raw materials. Modern technologies will come to the rescue. For health they are sometimes safer than praised eco products.
For the insulation of balconies and loggias can be used polyethylene foam. Its main advantage is lightness. It is produced both in rolls and in mats. Naturally, the thicker the layer, the better the thermal insulation. Negative - polyethylene does not "breathe", so you have to solve the issue of ventilation. But thanks to its moisture resistance there is no problem of waterproofing the insulation.
Hollofiber - the material is familiar, but not for construction. However, this is a good insulation not only for clothes, but for the home. A building holofiber is produced in the form of mats or plates of thickness from 6 to 12 cm. Besides other characteristics characteristic of high-quality thermal insulation, the material is not allergenic, and the low weight of the holofiber allows it to be used in almost any construction.
