Summer Soul Design: Ideas and Solutions
В продолжение previous article on the construction of a summer shower cubicle....
A practical and comfortable summer shower is simply irreplaceable in the country on hot days. The construction of such a structure is a great way for a real summer resident to show his imagination and ingenuity.
If there is no central water supply and sanitation in the country house, and the construction of the bathhouse is postponed for some reason, then a light shower will be a real salvation. Some erect such structures at the initial stage of development of the site, and then, when the house is built, they clean them, but in vain ...
An outdoor shower is indispensable for quick rinsing before swimming in the pool. In it, you can whip up a refreshment after working in the garden - wash off the main dirt from yourself so as not to carry it into the house. Such a construction will not be superfluous as a backup option in case of an influx of guests or with problems with the water supply in the house. And finally, this is a great way to save on heating water for several months a year.
FOR THE NOTICE
An important factor in choosing a location is the possibility of supplying water, so you do not have to pull an additional water pipe through the entire site. The used water, if possible, is disposed of in a domestic sewage system or a small local system is created.
Where to place a summer shower?
The water in the street shower will be heated by solar energy, so it should be placed in a sunny place. It is advisable to choose a site that is well lit throughout the day or before lunch. On hot days, the water heated in the morning will keep warm and will not have time to cool down until evening. The place should be protected from wind and drafts. Since the drainage of water in the shower booth is carried out naturally, it is better to place it on a certain elevation or raise it artificially.
Design and dimensions of the summer shower
In fact, the design of any summer shower consists of three main parts - a booth, a tank for water and a drain.
The sizes of a garden shower are chosen arbitrarily, but too close a structure will not be comfortable. The best option is a cabin consisting of two rooms: a washing room and a locker room. They are separated from each other by a partition or a curtain that protects clothing from spray, and a sufficiently high threshold so that water does not flow into the locker room.
The dimensions of the rooms should allow you to easily jump or raise your hands up. The minimum program is a washing room 100 x 100 cm plus 60 cm to the locker room. Thus, the parameters of the smallest shower cubicle will be 160 x 100 cm. You can make a more spacious construction with the size of 190 x 140 cm. When designing, consider the dimensions of all family members.
Building a summer shower
Since the supporting area of the building is small, and the height reaches 2-2,5 m plus a heavy tank on top, it is preferable to install the structure on the foundation. The best option is columnar or pile supports made of asbestos-cement pipes with a diameter of 80-100 mm. Pipes are buried in the soil by 100-150 cm so that they protrude above the surface by 20-30 cm and concreted.
The frame is assembled from a bar section 100 x 100 mm. First, the pillars are installed on the supports, then the top bandage is performed. The lower strapping is made inside the frame, because at the same time it will serve as lags for the floor.
Pillars for stiffness are strengthened with slopes. If desired, insulation can be laid in the walls. Any materials are suitable for external cladding - lining, OSB, etc. A single slope roof is given a slight slope, providing rain and melt water drainage. The existing roofing material is laid on top of the stuffed boards.
Floor in the washing room
The way in which the floor is performed in the washing room depends on where the water will be diverted. You can just fill the boards, leaving between them the gaps of 0.5-1, see through which the water will flow down onto the waterproof layer, and from there go into the drainage. For convenience, you can put a removable wooden grid on top of such a floor, but even with a slight breeze from the cracks in the floor it will be sufficiently inflated and it will not be very comfortable to swim.
The most modern and hygienic option is to install a ready-made shower tray in the washing department. In this case, the water is drained through a drain pipe with a flap valve made of soft rubber and, with a hose, is discharged into the drainage ditch, and if there is none nearby, into a specially arranged sump.
Note
In extreme cases, the drainage pit can be arranged directly under the shower. Only in this case the floor must necessarily be made of reinforced concrete, in which a small drain hole is left. First, a container with a lid and a pipe for draining water is buried, then concrete is poured into the formwork.
Water tank in the summer shower
The drain pit should not be located directly under the washing compartment. Over time, it can become silted and become a source of unpleasant odors. In order to organize the drainage of water using a waterproof layer, make a sloping mound and lined it with a dense PVC film or several layers of glass.
It is not recommended to use clay - it gradually erodes and clogs the drainage. The slope of the embankment is directed towards the pit, which is covered with gravel. To save money, the container can be half filled with construction waste - broken brick, pieces of concrete, and gravel can be laid on top and lightly compacted.
Water can be diverted to a drain hole located a little further from the cabin. They dig it out with a depth of 1-2 m so that the walls are not washed out by water, they are strengthened - they are laid with bricks, a metal barrel is inserted or a “well” is constructed from old car tires, and they are covered with a lid on top.

Storage tank
The storage water tank is installed on the roof of the structure and filled with a pump. Mainly use metal or plastic drums with the capacity of 100-200 l. Before installation, a tap with a thread and a faucet with a shower head are placed on the lid in the barrel.
Since the water will be heated by solar energy, it makes sense to paint the barrel before installation with a black matte paint - so it will warm up faster. A good effect is given by the erection of a small "greenhouse" over the tank, tightened with polyethylene or cellular polycarbonate. Such a device will protect the barrel from the wind and provide a temperature increase of 10-15 ° C. To increase the efficiency of heating the water, you can connect a freon capacitor borrowed from the old refrigerator to the barrel. One end of the “coil” is cut into the wall, the other into the bottom of the barrel.
Adjustable heating
If you do not rely on the grace of nature, take care of the electrical heating. Electric heater with thermostat ensures the heating of the water to the desired temperature. In this case, not soft hoses, but soldered polypropylene pipes with a diameter of 25 mm should be used for water supply.
If desired, you can not engage in amateur activities, and buy a ready barrel with automatic water heating, designed specifically for garden showers. Electricity to such tanks is permanently connected, water heating is carried out quickly and efficiently. A special temperature sensor controls that the water temperature does not fall below a specified parameter. The temperature can be varied from 20 to 80 ° C.
Our advice
To ensure the receipt of a shower of warm water from the upper layers, they arrange an upper water intake. For this purpose, the rigid corrugated hose is folded in the form of a spiral, its lower end is connected to the flow tube, and the upper one is fixed to the float from the foam.

SUMMER SHOWER IN THE DACHA WITH YOUR OWN HANDS - CONSTRUCTIONS, TIPS AND IDEAS FROM MASTERS
COUNTRY SUMMER SHOWER WITH YOUR OWN HANDS
In the summer, even if you are not working, but just relaxing in the country, you need the opportunity to wash. The easiest way to organize this is on the street, and not in the house. You can make a portable mobile shower. This is a great option for the first time. But I want something more solid, so I built a stationary outdoor shower in the country. For the frame, I used metal bases from old beds. That's what I did. Take note!
I used two tires for the drainage sump. I dug them into the ground and filled them with rubble. Silicate lintels became the foundation (you can use everything that is in the yard).
Frame (side walls) - two metal bases from old beds 2,16 m long and 0,95 m wide. I primed and painted them first. He fixed the side walls to the foundation with self-tapping screws 6x 150 mm, placing a board 50x120x1300 mm under them. There were already holes in the metal corner, and I drilled them in the board to make it easier for the self-tapping screw to enter (photo 1). The board should protrude into the structure to secure the floorboards.
I connected the side walls with two bars from above 150x50x1500 mm, one bar 150x50x1100 mm fixed to the back. On the floor of the booth, I fixed eight boards 150x40x 1100 mm on self-tapping screws (photo 2). The wooden parts of the structure were pretreated with an antiseptic compound.
On the outside of the shower frame, I pulled a rubberized fabric 2 m wide and 3 m long (photo 3, 4). I sewed up the top with the remains of polycarbonate from the greenhouse, imitating windows. This will make the cabin both lighter and warmer.
At the sale, I bought a 150 liter tank (you can find a more economical option, for example, plastic barrels) and installed it on top of the structure (photo 5). Considering that steel containers quickly rust, and stainless steel bites at a price, plastic has become the best option.
To hang the curtain, I fixed a wooden handle from a hoe.
To do this, I drilled two holes with a diameter of 6 mm on the sides and screwed the toilet lid to the cabin with latches. This is very convenient, since on one side there is a clamp, and on the outside - a hook for towels and clothes (photo 6, 7). I hung up the curtain (photo 8) When we don't use the shower, I fix it in the booth with plastic clamps (photo 9).
All preparation work took 4 hours. In further plans, the installation of a heating element for heating water, a hose outlet for a hand rain and a door.

MY SUMMER SHOWER DESIGN WITH HOT WATER + DRAWING
Not to depend on accidents is the task of any gardener. True, it is not always possible to fulfill it. But in the case of the construction of a country shower, there is nowhere to retreat.
A dacha is also a place to relax, and we are all about planting, cleaning, feeding, construction sites, pests.
Okay, I agree, working with pleasure is also a kind of rest. But where and how can you refresh your hot body and head? The easiest option is the so-called outdoor shower. However, the water there is heated by the sun, that is, we, summer residents, in this matter are completely dependent on the weather and time of day.
I began to master the personal plot in the distant nineties, when there was nothing in the shops and the construction of a house and all ancillary structures depended only on the owner's abilities and imagination. Now, when I hear the proud expression “I built a summer cottage,” I have great doubts that this man did everything with his own hands.
And you shouldn't reproach me for grumbling. Of course, my buildings are inferior both in design and in comfort to modern ones - those that hired workers will build as a designer from standard parts - but these are my works, and they are dear to me. Although the main thing in them is still not this - they are time-tested and have proven their functionality. Including, of course, the shower.
The basis of its design (see Fig.) Is a furnace (item 1), made of a pipe 50 mm in diameter and 150 mm in height, with a wall thickness of 10 mm. The lower part is a firebox, the upper part is a hot water tank. The water is heated using a chimney (pos. 11) running inside this tank. Water supply to both it and to the 200 liter barrel (item 2) installed on the roof is carried out from the suburban water supply system using taps (items 3 and 4) and a tee (item 5).
After filling the tanks with water, the tap (pos. 3) is closed. The distribution of hot and cold water is carried out thanks to a standard mixer (item 6), which allows water to be supplied to the shower (item 7) or sink (item 8) through separate taps: item. 9 - cold water, pos. 10 - hot water.
The functioning of the shower is based on the principle of communicating vessels. Cold water pressure displaces hot water. And the higher the tank is (pos. 2), the stronger the value of this pressure.
It is necessary to dwell on one feature that can affect the performance of the system. Previously, I used two pairs of ordinary household taps: separate for the shower and for the bath. In this case, the tee (pos. 5) had to be replaced with a valve with four inputs. Last year I decided to simplify the design and installed the already mentioned standard mixer. And the pressure in the shower dropped sharply.
Obviously, this happened because the cross-section of the holes of the old taps was larger than in the mixers. But here, too, I found a way out. It turned out that to solve this problem, it is enough to turn off the tap (pos. 4) and open another (pos. 3). And the pressure of the water from the water supply system will ensure the normal performance of the shower.
At the same time I want to share one more device for planting plants. I plant seedlings of peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers in plastic rectangular half-liter cups. For planting, I use a device in the form of a cylinder with a diameter of 100 mm and a height of 280 mm, made of a thin aluminum sheet, the edges of which are riveted along the contour (small screws can be used). I attached a handle to the top of the cylinder.
I put the cylinder on the ground, press on it, and it easily enters the ground. I take it out along with the soil, and a hole of the required depth remains on the garden bed. I put the necessary fertilizers into it, water it.
I turn the glass of seedlings over, lightly squeeze the walls with my fingers, and the plant, along with a lump of earth, slips into my palm. It remains only to lower all this into the hole. The cylinder shakes sharply, and the earth spills out nearby and falls asleep in the hole. This cylinder can also be used for planting other plants. In conclusion, I wish all gardeners and gardeners easy work, success and serene outdoor recreation.

THE SIMPEST SUMMER SHOWER IN THE COTTAGE WITH YOUR HANDS
I have long wanted to make a simple summer shower on the site, so that in hot weather, especially after working in the garden, rinse and freshen up. The dream was realized when, after the construction of the fence, pipe trimmings and profiled sheets remained.
It took: a profile pipe with a section of 30 × 20 mm 3 profile sheets 1500 × 960 mm a plastic tank with a valve and a water spray (you can buy it at a hardware store) self-tapping screws anchor bolts cement and sand PVC pipe primer and paint for metal.
- I cut the profile pipe into segments of the required length, based on the dimensions of the future shower cabin, in my case - 960x960x2000 mm.
- I welded two rectangular frames from pipes with a size of 960 × 2000 mm. I installed them parallel to each other, welded the frames together from above and below with four pieces of pipe 960 mm long at the corners. It turned out the frame of the cabin.
- He reinforced the three side walls of the frame with pieces of a profile pipe - welded into the frames one segment parallel to the lower crossbar at a distance of 1 m from it. The upper part was also reinforced with a crossbar for installing a water tank. The structure was primed and painted (photo 1).
- When the coating was dry, I installed the frame vertically and sheathed it on three sides with sheets of corrugated board, fixing them on self-tapping screws. I fixed the sheets at a height of 15 cm from the ground (photo 2), the gap formed from below will ensure the ventilation of the shower cabin and prevent the appearance of mold and fungus in it. Left the top open.
- In order for the cabin to stand securely and firmly, a foundation is needed (besides, it will be more convenient to take a shower with it). I dug a hole for sewage, laid a sewer plastic pipe from it, which I led to the installation site of the shower.
- In this place, I marked out a square 100 × 100 cm, removed a layer of turf, covered the depression with sand and rammed it.
From the boards along the perimeter of the square, I mounted the formwork and filled it with cement-sand mortar in a ratio of 1: 3, leaving the pipe sticking out (photo 3).
- Smoothing the surface of the solution, formed a slope to the pipe for easy water flow. After the concrete had finally hardened, I removed the formwork and installed a shower cabin on the foundation (photo 4). I fixed it to the concrete base with anchor bolts.
- On top of the shower, I installed and secured a plastic tank with ropes, and spent all its fittings inside the cabin. At the entrance to the shower hung a bright plastic curtain.

SHOWER WITH YOUR HANDS - FLOWING CABIN-CYLINDER
In half an hour, together with my husband, we organized a place for water procedures in the country. A children's gymnastic hoop came in handy. I share our idea with you.
We chose a place in the garden under a tree, and there my husband dug in a metal rack from a pipe, on which we will install a shower diffuser.
A hoop and a polyethylene curtain for the bathroom lay in the pantry for a long time, these items became the basis of the frame.
I cut the clothesline into pieces and tied the curtain to the hoop with them so that it moved. The frame is ready.
With the same rope, the husband tied the base hoop to a thick tree branch above the previously dug-in rack. To make it convenient to take a shower, I assembled a ladder from the rails on the screws.

SHOWER HOLDER OWN HANDS
At the dacha, he attached a summer shower to the house. He brought water to it - a rain-watering can with a hose came in handy, which, after updating the bathroom in the apartment, was waiting in the pantry in the pantry. Only now the mount for him was lost. I had to make a new one.
From the trimming of the board, I sawed out the base of a suitable size and the mounting plate of the holder. Details from all sides were processed with sandpaper, first large, then fine.
I drilled a hole in the bar with a feather drill d 20 mm. One of its ends was cut at an angle of about 30 degrees, and with this side I screwed the part to the base with self-tapping screws (photo 1)
In order for the shower head to hold securely in the bar, I increased the hole to a diameter with a round file
Note
The angle of inclination of the bar can be any, the direction of the jet flow depends on it, so I recommend trying on the bar to the base along with the watering can before cutting and choosing the most optimal slope for yourself.

We want to save money and make a summer shower in the country with our own hands from the remnants of building materials. Can you advise the easiest option?
#
It is difficult to say, not knowing exactly what materials you have left. A homemade summer shower is sheathed with any improvised materials: slate, board, professional sheet, plastic, banners. The construct can be peeped at a modular country shower, a wide selection of such devices is presented in construction and gardening stores. Usually this is a frame made of a metal profile pipe, covered with a dense water-repellent raincoat, a wooden pallet and a plastic container with a water heater. Widely distributed among summer residents of tramps. This is a kind of rubber mat with a hose system. Step by step, the person pumps water from the tank into a hose with a watering can.
There are some tricks to use when building a summer shower on your site. Water will heat faster in a black container. True, the metal tank heats up quickly, but also cools quickly. A kind of thermos can be arranged if you construct a glass frame around the container. Since the water warms up unevenly, when the bottom of the barrel is supplied, colder water will first merge. This can be avoided by installing a float, in this case, warm water will first come from the top of the tank. On clay soil, it is worthwhile to provide for drainage; on sandy soil, you can do without it.

Summer shower "A breath of freshness" with your own hands
To freshen up and simply "wash off" the fatigue after working in the suburban area, Roman Zharkoy made a solid and at the same time simple design of the summer shower.
To do this, he needed: timber, boards, polycarbonate, roofing felt, ball valve, paving slab, paint, screws, plastic barrel of volume 200 l, polypropylene pipe.
First, the author mounted the foundation and installed on it a solid framework of timber. He fixed the roof on it and sewed the walls with polycarbonate. He brought the water down. You can take a shower.

This summer I made a new shower in the country with my own hands. For its manufacture, I used profile pipes 50 × 50 mm and 40 × 20 mm, corners 50 × 50 mm, sheet flat slate 1,5 × 2 m, a professional sheet, a purchased stainless steel tank and a plastic pallet.
I welded the main pillars from a 50 × 50 mm pipe to each other with jumpers from the same pipe 50 × 50 mm and 40 × 20 mm in 3 places. The result was an iron frame, which I concreted into the ground.
From above, as a roof, fixed the corrugated sheet, made holes for the sprinkler in it. To install the tank welded 2 angle (the size of the barrel).
In the middle part of the shower, he dug a pit for the sewer pipe, setting it at an angle of 30 °. The base of the floor was poured with concrete and put a plastic pallet on the top.
Iron frame painted with black paint and only then fastened the slate. Slate for the walls cut out a Bulgarian, and fastened with roofing screws for metal.
The shower is ready!
