Garden on the windowsill - beautiful options for arranging from the architect
In urban conditions, many feel themselves detached from nature. To restore this connection, it is enough to cultivate greenery right in your apartment. The best place for this can be a window sill where there is a lot of light, sun and conditions for plant growth
Any green corner is always a creation of nature, which causes positive emotions in a person. Besides, besides the original decoration, it can become a hobby for those who need relaxation.
How to apply for this free space
The presented drawings show how it is possible to create from a simple and accessible materials a green corner that fits into the interior of the apartment.
In residential multi-storey buildings, whose walls are made of bricks, blocks, prefabricated panels or solid concrete, and the maximum standard window width is 1450-1800 mm, you can place boxes, containers, floor and wall pots with fruit and ornamental plants and flowers, and also for growing seedlings (Figure 1, 2, 3, A).
So, on special supports made of wooden racks, set two-level pots, which consist of two containers, where a large one is inserted into the small one. In the small place the soil and roots of plants are placed, and water is poured on the bottom, which feeds the plants (Figure 2). It must be remembered that they can never be poured, so a pallet with claydite is used, which is filled with water and a pot of flower is attached to it. Due to this arrangement, the plant will select the required amount of moisture for it.

The width of the window sill in 25-30 cm allows to arrange (strengthen) on it several containers with different types of colors. To increase the area, you can arrange additional stands. They can be made of plastic or wood (Figure 1).
Particular interest in the design of floor pots are decorative fences (Figure 1). They can be made of wooden bars with a height of 10-12 cm and a width of 5-6 cm, joining together like a flexible tape with a soft wire. Such a "fence" can take any form, creating a certain decorativeness.
An additional decoration will serve as a metal grid, along which the stems of plants curl, forming a dense green screen. Its height depends on the size of flowerpots and pots, which are collected in separate microclubs.
The window in its essence is a screen through which you can see the street and penetrate natural light, so do not make it a variety of tinsel and figurines of decorative decoration. It is necessary to find a reasonable balance between the colors themselves and the number of objects that will be added to them. Accordingly, all the basic green outfit is more reasonable to place on the windowsill or on adjacent stands (Fig. 2, 3).
One part of the stands is attached to the sill, the other to the support posts connected to the main (Figure 3). The stand and the window sill are on the same level, which makes it possible to combine them into a single green space. This can be achieved thanks to a palisade of wooden bars (Figure 1), which wraps around the tape all the pots and vases. An additional element of this composition are two racks of dry tree trunks. They are installed at the edges of the windows. The branches of plants are attached to the trunks. Knots can easily be joined together by several threads of fishing line, which will create a transparent web for fastening plants.
In those apartments where a small area does not allow the installation of additional tables for the placement of desktop pots, a geometric volumetric structure made of wooden slats can be built on the windowsill (Figure 2).

Pots can be installed in two tiers, and on the side walls of the window aperture to strengthen light metal or wooden shelves on which the "hanging gardens" will be placed. They will surround the window opening on both sides. The combination of living plant stems with a skeleton of geometric rectangles will create an unusual picture of the intertwining of straight lines with picturesque foliage of garden crops.
The original solution for garden plants can be created at window bay windows. In this case, it is proposed to use two tiers: the first, the lower, which rests above the sill panel, and the second - on the shelves attached to the window sashes.
On the lower surface set a few boxes with the soil on the top-traditional shape of the pots with plants. In the process of growth, the stems of fruit plants rise up and are fixed to the shelves of the upper row, creating a picturesque composition in the form of the letter N. The beauty of the interior of the bay window is complemented by two spherical pots that are attached to the rack placed on the ceiling.
The height of the suspension - 80-90, see one part of the metal ball is designed for the ground (there are the roots of climbing plants or flowers), the other, a larger volume for water (Figure 4). The hemisphere with plants is made of plastic. And in the lower part, through holes are made, through which water constantly flows to the roots. The upper shelves of transparent glass will look good on the window: they do not give a shadow and do not interfere with the penetration of bright sun rays.
In large rooms, where there are several windows, you can select two windows under the garden, thereby setting a certain rhythm and dynamics in the planting of plants. The main floral compositions are fixed on the sides, in the openings of the windows, which creates a cozy atmosphere and does not cause shade (Figure 5). It is important to know that the flowers located near the windows, on a glass terrace or loggia, need periodic lighting. This can be done with fluorescent lamps of day or white light. They do not produce heat and give a light similar to sunlight.
TIP.
In shops now phytolamps are being sold, intended especially for indoor planting of plants in winter.
Daylight lamps can be connected to a timer, which will enable them to turn on and off themselves at a given time when plants most need light.
LED spotlights are one of the most optimal solutions for lightening. They save up to 50% of electricity.
And the lamp itself does not overheat - it can be placed close to plants without harmful consequences for them. At the same time, LEDs do not overheat soil, which reduces the amount of watering: the ground does not dry out so quickly. In addition, LED lights are difficult to break, so the design does not use glass, they are also resistant to voltage drops. It is very important that the LEDs are produced with different spectrum (red, blue), and by changing the color gamut, it is possible to regulate the growth and maturation processes.
Over photophilous plants, for example, suspended fluorescent lamps at an altitude of 10 cm, above the shade-loving lamps - 40-50 cm, from the calculation of 200-300 W at 1 m2 window sill.
However, despite the fact that light is needed for all plants, in large quantities it can not only damage, but also completely destroy certain types of vegetation.

Therefore, it should be treated with reasonable care and use artificial plant shading with the help of protective elements. For this purpose roll blinds, which can be selected to the interior of the room, or conventional blinds (figure 5), will do. You can use sun blinds, which have an adhesive strip to attach to the window. They are raised if necessary (if, for example, the day was not sunny). There is also a floristic film - this is a cheaper solution to protect indoor flowers from the scorching summer sun. To the plastic frame, it is attached with adhesive tape.
As for the plants themselves, it is necessary to understand: the minisade will require at least an uncomplicated but regular maintenance. Therefore, it is necessary to choose unpretentious plants and proceed from their capabilities and time, which you are ready to spend on caring for them.
