HOW TO GROW ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY VEGETABLES - AT ALL WITHOUT NITRATES?
Without dressings, including mineral fertilizers, to achieve a good harvest is difficult. Are you for an ecologically clean garden? There are some simple but effective agricultural methods that can help reduce the concentration of nitrates in the vegetables you grow.
ALLOWED NITRATES DOSE FOR:
- cabbage - 500 mg / kg

- cucumbers - 150 mg / kg

Nitrates are salts of nitric acid. They get into water and plants from mineral fertilizers
1. Minerals and Organic
Plants need a balanced but moderate diet. You can use complex mineral fertilizers, ammonium nitrate or urea.
It is necessary to abandon fresh manure, replace it with humus or green fertilizers, which include lupine or clover. These herbs can be infused with weeds and a small amount of manure and other nutrients, and then used as a solution (1: 10). But it is easier to put the mowed green mass in the soil in autumn and sow nitrogen-rich land in the spring. Organic fertilizers can be partially replaced by charcoal ground to powder.
2. Divide in half
Crops that are prone to accumulation of nitrates (parsley, spinach, lettuce, dill), it is advisable not to feed. And if there is a need to feed, use half the norm specified in the instructions.
3. "Tricky" with regulators
It is possible to reduce the concentration of nitrates in vegetables by one-third, if 2-3 weeks before harvesting are processed by planting with growth regulators (Zircon, Epin-extra, sodium humate).
4. Add the sun
It is noticed that more nitrates accumulate in vegetables if they grow in the shade. Therefore, do not use shaded areas for growing and weed beds in time.
5. In the evening after watering
Thoroughly water the bed with green crops 2-3 the day before harvest - leave the cut itself in the evening. This will reduce the concentration of nitrates in green almost twice.

6. Only mature in the basket
In immature fruits and vegetables, nitrates are much more than in ripe ones. Sick and pest-prone plants also tend to actively accumulate harmful compounds.
7. Protect from drops The stronger and more frequent the drops in temperature during the growth of plants, the more nitrates they contain. To help the vegetables in the open field to cope with bad weather, install small arcs above them and cover the night with spanbond or film. NITRATES NOT AFRAID!
To reduce the content of nitrates in vegetables, I learned how to prepare them correctly.
Before cooking my beets and carrots, peel them and soak them in cold water for 10-15 minutes. After boiling I drain the water, wash the vegetables and continue to cook in a fresh portion of water.
Greenery put as a bouquet in the water and stand in the sunshine on the 2-3 hours.
Pumpkin and zucchini cut into cubes, soak about half an hour.
White or red cabbage, which lay down until March, kvashu. Sheepskin, add carrots (100 g / kg), salt at the rate of 20 g / kg. I put them tightly in clean jars, close them with lids and leave them warm. Twice a day I pierce the billet with a wooden skewer to release carbon dioxide. A week later, tidy cabbage in the cold.

Indeed, soaking in water reduces the nitrate content of vegetables by 15-20%. And the greenery in the water gets rid of harmful compounds completely, the main thing in the process is to change the water at least twice. When cooking, potatoes lose up to 80% nitrates, carrots and cabbage - up to 70%, beets - up to 40%. And fermentation allows you to "get rid" of up to one third of all nitrates.
By the way, it is possible to reduce the risk from the consumption of these adversely affecting substances on the body in the process of eating - for example, washing down a salad from leafy greens with orange juice.

NITRATES SWEDISH
A couple of years ago, I read that when growing vegetables, the Swedes do not use mineral fertilizers and manure that are popular in our country. Organic infusions and ashes are used instead. I tried. It turned out that on such a light "food" the plants yield no worse yield.
In the spring, under the digging, I make to 2 Art. Ash on Xnumx sq.m of soil.
Universal growth stimulator: 400 g young needles pour 5 l of hot water. I insist 5-7 days, filter, dilute with warm water (1: 10) and water all the plants in the garden at the root. I noticed that after such dressings vegetables are less likely to get sick and less harmful to pests.
Korovyak replaced infusion of nettle and dandelions.
And at the budding stage, I use yeast as a top dressing: I grow 100 of fresh yeast in liter of warm water in 3, add 1 st.l. sugar, at the end of the fermentation of 0,5 l concentrate I grow in 10 l of water and water the plants at the root.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM NITRATES
To avoid the accumulation of nitrates, do not plant vegetables in the shade of trees, promptly remove weeds from the beds that sometimes shade plants, avoid neglected plantings.
It should also be remembered that the ability to accumulate nitrates largely depends on early maturity. The earlier vegetables ripen, the more harmful nitric acid salts are stored in them. Therefore, the "nitrate champions" are parsley, dill, lettuce, spinach and other greens. And also vegetables such as radishes, carrots, beets, black radish. It is better to grow them without the use of nitrogen fertilizers, and sow on the beds a year after application, but beans and peas only in the third year.
It has been established that in carrots, radishes and beets, the most nitrates accumulate in the top. Potatoes have more nitrates in the skin and under it (that's why it's better to refuse potatoes in their uniform).
For the same reason, it is also advisable to peel cucumbers and cut off their tails.
The harm from nitrates can be neutralized by placing peeled vegetables in a container of water for four hours before cooking. The nitrates will go into the water. But, unfortunately, together with nitrates, vitamin C, monosugar, and other substances important for the body pass into the water.
