DECORATIVE HILLS IN THE AREA WITH OWN HANDS - TIPS FOR LANDSCAPE DESIGNER
ABSOLUTELY FLAT PLOT UNDER THE HOUSE AND GARDEN-JOY FOR A DEVELOPER AND SIMULTANEOUSLY HEAD PAIN FOR LANDSCAPE DESIGNER.
BUT IT'S AREA TO DO
Not every owner of the site immediately thinks in detail about the landscape design - issues related to building a house seem much more serious. However, the ability to provide for their expenses a few steps forward helped the owner of the site in the suburbs to seriously save money and at the same time come up with an elegant solution for the design of the site.
MOUNTAIN IN MOSCOW REGION NO. BUT HILLS WILL BE!
Designers are not very fond of flat areas, since the most interesting landscape design techniques imply a more complex relief. If there are level drops on the site, then ladders, terraces, alpine slides turn out by themselves, and as a whole the site becomes diverse and visually more spacious.
The owner of this site was also not a fan of flat lands - he liked the hills much more. And the heaps of soil turned out when laying the foundation and poured along the perimeter of the plot turned out to be very useful. An interesting task was set for landscape designer Ekaterina Alexandrova: to organize a harmonious composition of hills along the perimeter of a plot of 10 acres that would not “argue” with a large two-story house.
LITTLE IRELAND
Why was this task initially difficult? The fact is that geoplastics (artistic change of the relief of the site) is not done on small platforms. It is believed that artificial hills need a plot of at least 20 hundredth, whereas in this project involved all 10.
By a happy coincidence, the heaps of soil were located so that they did not have to be drastically moved. At the time of the commencement of work, the soil naturally crumbled for six months. Of course, ideally, such hills should survive one winter in order for complete shrinkage to take place, but there was no such time: it was necessary to do all the work in one season. Therefore, the hills were formed using layer-by-layer ramming.
From the very beginning, the slopes of the hills were designed so that the soil would hold itself, so they decided to abandon additional fortifications in the form of geogrids, etc. The hills formed with some increase in their height relative to the design, taking into account possible shrinkage. The mounds consist almost entirely of a soft fertile soil layer, so they rammed them thoroughly, and a small amount of soil mixture and mineral fertilizers were added to the top layer for the lawn.

WHAT HILLS HIDE
In general, the site can be divided into two main areas: the front (entrance) and private, located behind the house.
An ecoparning was arranged in the ceremonial zone: the site was covered with a TTE polymer-composite grille. But her cells did not become completely sown with lawn grass. Where the main routes of movement around the house pass, the cells were laid with special TTE paving stones. So turned out neat practical track.
Thanks to the artificial hills, almost the entire private part was protected from prying eyes. There is a sunbathing lawn, a recreation area with a nostroisch, and a small orchard with a multi-tiered ornamental garden.
In the recreation area, decorative gravel was poured, allowing rainwater to be easily absorbed into the soil. Benches manually cut from the trunks of the pines.
The spacious lawn is framed by wooden flooring, replacing the path. Since the facade of the house, standing on the site, is also decorated with wooden planks, this solution is quite logical.
SELECTING PLANTS
Pine trees of several species were chosen as the main plants. According to Catherine Alexandrova, they perfectly emphasize the architectural appearance of the house, and in addition, in winter. and in summer they support the structure of the garden.
Rhododendrons are used in the entrance area, since their thick, fleshy leaves combine well with the texture of eco-parking cubes and the “brutal” covering of the front of the house.
In spring, this area will be especially beautiful due to their flowers.
In summer, the main decorative function will be taken over by an arc of sage oak and Japanese spirea 'Crispa'. This arc is a continuation of the red cobblestone path laid out in the parking area. When the spirea blooms, the impression is that the red cobblestones of the path turned into dark pink flowers of spirea and sage, and this lively path stretched along the winding path to the hills.

In the private area, the theme of contrasting colors is played out, just as the architect did in the appearance of the house: its facade is made in two colors - light gray and dark brown. Plants with variegated foliage became the “tools” for such a game: white debris 'Sibirica Variegata', fallaris, willow 'Hakuro-nishiki' and a plant with dark foliage - Diabolo Kalinolistny. The color contrast is emphasized by the white caps of panicle hydrangea and the saturated red color of astilbe and Japanese spiraea 'Antony Vaterery'. The theme of color contrast was continued even in the plants of the decorative garden: two-leaved oak lettuce was used there.
