HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN HANDS A SIMPLE BUT BEAUTIFUL WOODEN SHELF
This simple hinged construction is useful in any household. It can serve for storing not only books and photo albums, but also souvenirs or other memorabilia.
Making shelf patterns
The first thing you need to do is draw a sketch with a pencil - it will give us an understanding of the overall appearance, that is, how the finished product will look in volume (photo 1). It is desirable, of course, to draw on an approximate scale - so it will be easier later to navigate in choosing the size of individual parts.
With the help of a soft simple pencil, ruler and compass, actively using an eraser, we draw full-size detail templates on thick paper (photo 2).
The resulting patterns are folded in half and cut out according to the drawn marking with scissors - in this way, both halves will be the same and symmetric (photo 3).
As a result of these simple actions, we have obtained part templates (4 photo), so that we don’t have to mark up on each of the blanks.
In total, three templates will be needed: one for the two side walls, the second for the upper and lower parts of the decorative back wall and the third for the horizontal shelf itself.
Choice of materials
Now you can see what size you need to make blanks for each part. However, this is useful only if you glue the blanks yourself. A simpler and more convenient way is to use ready-made, already glued factory furniture panels (photo 5).
When choosing them, make sure that there are no cracks, knots, blue, resinous and other wood defects on the boards. It is best (if possible) to use hard wood - for example, birch. Thus, when processing workpieces, you can save a lot of time on grinding finished parts.
At the stage of preparing templates, it is desirable to focus on the standard dimensions of the finished panels - there will be less waste.

Markup blanks
To begin with, we transfer the markup: we place the template on the workpiece, protect it from shifting, fix it with buttons, and draw a simple pencil around it (photo 6).
As a result, in literally five minutes we will get exactly the details marked.
In the center of the back wall from the front side we outline the thickness of the blank for fixing the horizontal shelf (photo 7).
It is convenient to make the marking of a horizontal shelf in the form of an arc segment using a metal ruler or a long, easily bendable plastic panel.
Production of parts
Now, carefully, without haste and fuss, we cut out the parts according to the marking with the help of a manual jigsaw, and it is advisable to put a new canvas with not too large teeth and install large revolutions. With a low speed of movement of the tool, this will give a cleaner and more even cut (photo 8).
The cuts are processed with sanding pads of various grains. Due to this, the edge will be more even (photo 9).
It is quite convenient to grind radial parts with a rounded “toe” of a belt sander.
As a result of the above actions, we have finished, clean and neatly cut parts (photo 10).
Shelf assembly
Now we proceed to the most important stage - the connection of parts into a single whole. In this case, their fastening is most conveniently done on wooden dowels. Someone will argue that it will be faster and more reliable to make the connection with the help of metal fasteners, but in this case the fastener heads will be visible from the sides. They can be closed with plugs, but, you see, the view will not be so neat anymore.
To begin, mark the holes for dowels. The distance between them is approximately 20-25 cm, the diameter of the dowels is 10 mm.
Since the connection on the dowels is hidden and imperceptible from the outside, it means that the holes for such fasteners should be made deaf. In order not to drill through the back and side walls, we use an improvised stopper. Measure out from the tip of the twist drill on the mm 18 tree and wind a piece of electrical tape in this place (photo 11).
Now we drill through the holes of the required depth strictly according to the marking in the rear wall (photo 12).
Since the mating holes in the second part are quite difficult to mark identically to the first, we use a special tool for marking - a center punch with a center (photo 13).
Insert the center pins into the holes drilled in the back wall, put the second part according to the marking and mark the places of the holes with a light blow (photo 14).
For ready marks we drill the response holes to the required depth. At the same time, you should try to keep the drill level.
Now insert dowels into the holes (photo 15). Aligning all four holes, without much effort, we put the second part on all four dowels (photo 16).
We act in the same way with the side walls: mark up, drill, insert dowels and set the parts down with light hammer blows (photo 17).
Check the shelf assembled dry: ideally there should be no slots in the mating parts (photo 18).
After checking the accuracy of the connections, we reassemble all the parts again and mill all the edges. Install the round cutter in the milling machine collet and mill all edges in one pass (photo 19).
Mounting mounts
Mark up space for fasteners to fix the product on the wall. They must be at equal distances (photo 20).
We install a slotted (finger) cutter of the required diameter into the collet of a manual milling machine and mill the seats for the sheds (21 photo), not forgetting to make a recess for the heads of the self-tapping screws (22 photo). Small screws (no longer than the wall thickness) fasten the sheds into the seats with a screwdriver (photo 23).

The final stage
After completing all the adjustments before final assembly with glue, it is necessary to carefully polish all the details, because this is a guarantee of the excellent appearance of the product.
Edges are processed manually with the help of skins of different granularities. Having finished a thorough polishing, we proceed to the final assembly of the product.
First, glue the dowels into the end parts of the parts, then wait for the glue to dry (photo 24). After that we complete the build (photo 25).
SHELVES AND SHELVES OWN HANDS - IDEAS AND TIPS OF READERS-MASTERS
SHOP FOR GADGETS OWN HANDS
From the scraps of chipboard he made a small shelf for his kitchen. The design is very simple, so even a beginner who can take the first steps in the manufacture of cabinet furniture can repeat it.
I cut out the following details with a jigsaw: two shelves 200 × 350 mm in size, a 100x150 mm partition and a back wall in the form of a rhombus 300 × 300 mm in size (photo 1)
In the shelves I rounded off two angles with a jigsaw (which will act), I used a plastic pipe of suitable diameter as a template for marking. Edged edges and places of the cut with sandpaper (photo 2). Using an iron, pasted over them with an edge strip. I drilled three blind holes in the upper edge of the wall (rhombus) and inserted dowels in them, lubricated with joiner's PVA glue. He fixed two furniture canopies on one plane (which will be adjacent to the wall), and secured a partition perpendicularly to the other confirmations (photo 3), in the upper face of which he also fixed dowels.
In the upper shelf I marked and drilled holes for dowels, fixed it on the base (photo 4). I screwed the lower one to the base by the firm (photo 5). The shelf is ready.

SHELF FOR THE EMERGENCY HAND
The wife and daughter are fond of drawing. He organized for them an "artist's corner" with a large table. So that you can place everything you need for creativity (brushes, paints, cups), I made a shelf from scraps of coniferous boards.
I picked up a couple of suitable boards and cut off the blanks of the required size from them, then stitched them along the plane. In total, four parts were required: two sidewalls and two shelves.
I cut off four blanks from the bar with a length along the width of the shelves - these are stops, gave them the desired shape with a hacksaw, processed with sandpaper and screwed them to the sides at the required level and distance from each other (photo 1). The joiner and self-tapping screws assembled a shelf using PVA glue (photo 2). I decided to install a back wall made of plywood in order to hide the relief of the log wall of the house after hanging it, and it will also prevent the shelf from loosening laterally. I cut out the necessary part from a thin sheet of fiberboard.
I attached it to the shelf with glue and small nails. I made suspensions from roofing galvanized steel with a thickness of 0,5 mm, cut off strips of the required length and width and fixed them on self-tapping screws in their places (photo 3), I hung a shelf in a creative workshop.
