HOW AND FROM WHAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE A FLEXIBLE JIGLA SAW
As a teacher of technology, and simply as a person who loves manual labor, I was always interested in hand tools, especially designed for working wood. I like to work with hand tools. I try to instill a love for manual woodworking and my students. Now to persuade the boys to do something with hand tools is becoming increasingly difficult. At best, the guys reason: “Why? There is a power tool - it's easier, easier and faster for them. ” Medium option:
“What century are we living in? Nanotechnology, robotics - you need to move on to this. "
In my opinion, the worst answer is: “Why strain, if everything can be bought?”
In the days when we studied, not every master even had an electric drill. Units were the lucky owners of electrical cutting or chainsaws. Jigsaw, screwdriver - what is it?
It seems to me that I saw ways that guide modern students in the right direction, whose minds are too loaded with information and communication technologies - this is creativity, new ideas, own ways of solving certain specific tasks. Konstantin Kireev, a student of the 9 class of our lyceum, helped me see it.
My brother and I from the father and grandfathers inherited the tools that I placed on the stand in the school workshop. Often I go to the stand, I look, I reflect. As the tools show, they worked a lot, often repaired, improved, reconstructed. It affects both form and purpose. Who first came up with them? What is their story, evolution? Where did these names come from? Now almost nobody needs them, except perhaps as a museum piece.
I am convinced that it is impossible to teach children to type texts on the computer right away - it is necessary to go the way of spelling on paper. You cannot begin to teach children, for example, wood processing using modern technologies - it is necessary to go the way of practical wood processing with hand tools. That is, in fact, one should follow the path of the evolution of tools, and hence the history of mankind.
Konstantin Kireev: “I love going out for mushrooms, traveling with my family to Altai, to salt and mountain lakes. When you are in nature, far from civilization, suddenly there is a need for this or that tool.
So. Once during the holidays, gas for the stove plate ran out. Thick broken branches lay on the shore, but the length did not allow them to use them for a fire. Unfortunately, we did not have saws, and I came up with the design of a saw blade made of wire. ”
I have not seen this yet. Once I had to remove the unnecessary wire from the radio from the roof of the house. Bit off with pliers - the wire fell on a branch of an apple tree. He pulled - rusted wire almost cut a thick branch. I then noted what a good way it is, but then I forgot about it. Now Konstantin reminded me of this idea.
In fact, Konstantin "invented" Gigli's saw, which was developed by surgeon Leonardo Gigli in 1894 for cutting bone tissue during surgical operations. Subsequently, the saw was slightly improved and used in medicine so far.
On the basis of this idea, all sorts of flexible hand saws with teeth are now made for use in field conditions for sawing wood. but they. In our opinion, they are not very convenient and practical.
So an unexpected decision found during the campaign formed the basis of the whole project, which Constantine devoted not only to the study of Gigli saw, but also to saws in general, as well as the sawing process.
According to statistics, almost every modern builder in the arsenal has such a tool as a saw. To be precise, 97,2 has% of house craftsmen and almost 99,1% of masters who work in production. This fact suggests that the saw reached the peak of its popularity.
Saw is far from being a “young” tool and invented by people for a very long time. The first saws were made by the ancient masters by sharpening a piece of stone on the sharp corners of a rock or finding suitable ready-made stone fragments. Then the saws were made of metal: first from copper and bronze, and then from steel. Now the evolution of the hand saw with teeth goes mainly in the direction of improving the saw tooth, its sharpening, as well as the material from which the hacksaw blade is made.
Belt, chain versions of the saw Gigli can also be considered as separate branches of the directions of evolutionary development of the same process — sawing.
But the Russian masters are perhaps one of those who resisted the use of sawing for the longest time in carpentry and especially in carpentry. Used, of course, but very little. Until the 17th century, this process was called friction. The wood was mostly chopped, chopped with an ax, hollowed with tools similar to the modern chisel. stabbed with wedges. Experience prompted the craftsmen that it was during this treatment that the “vessels” of the wood remained closed, the moisture gets less inside, the products do not rot.
Of course, if you are going to hike, you need to foresee everything, but the wire saw is not the main tool that you need to take with you. Although one day she can help out. It is easy to make such a saw, it is feasible for everyone. But the main thing that she pushed for reflection and research, drew attention to the story, and not only saws and the sawing process.
