What to do if the tree is one-sided ...
Tell me what to do with a two-year pear tree, which branches grow only on one side? Valentin Stanislavovich GUBAREVICH
This phenomenon - one-sidedness - happens, and this happens not only with pears, but also with other fruit trees, with the exception of cherries and plums, in which there is a gum-dropping. The reason - in the underdevelopment of the kidneys or twigs, which did not have enough food or they froze in the winter. The solution is to activate sleeping kidneys on this side of the trunk. This is done using a special operation called kerbovka.
Essence of the operation
Recall that usually for awakening "sleeping beauties" on any plant pruned or pinch the main shoot. The response of the plant is the growth of lateral shoots, including from dormant buds. This technique is used by gardeners and gardeners in order to stimulate the branching of plants.
But in order to activate the growth points, it is not necessary to shorten the main shoot of a young tree. It is enough to make an incision above the kidney. This leads to the overlap in this place of the vessels carrying nutrients, and most of them go to the sleeping kidney. This simple operation is called kerbovka.

KERBOVKI DETAILS
Kerbovka is carried out at a time when the trees are at a dormant stage - this is the end of winter or the very beginning of spring.
For the operation, a very sharp knife is needed, which must be disinfected with alcohol or a strong solution of potassium permanganate and wipe with a sterile bandage to dryness. With a blade, stepping back from a sleeping bud or an underdeveloped branch up 0,5 cm, two cuts are made, the distance between which is from 2 mm to 2 cm. This spacing is explained by the size of the tree: the larger it is, the larger the gap should be. You can connect the edges and remove the crust in the form of a strip. But the crescent-shaped incision directed βhornsβ downwards βworksβ best.
In any case, the bark must be removed, otherwise there will be no sense from a βhalf-heartedβ kerbovka. The resulting wound must be carefully covered with garden pitch so that it can drag out over time.
At the end of the operation, the incision site is wrapped with an insulating tape on the 1-2 of the week with tape, but always with a sticky side facing up. It has been proved by practice: after a couple of weeks, young twigs grow from dormant buds on the βbareβ side of the tree, and by the autumn they become full-fledged shoots, and the crown becomes evenly shaped.
SCOPE OF WIDE KERBOVKA
Operation by eliminate one-sided plants can be distributed to ornamental and berry bushes and even indoor flowers. If the trunks or stems are of small thickness, it is enough to make a single incision without removing the bark. Even such minor intervention will force the plant to give its dormant kidney a wake-up command. This can be done with tree branches, forcing them to release more secondary shoots, for example, upwards.
Note
Kerbovka is designed not only to improve the nutrient supply of the kidney or shoot. It can be carried out with the opposite goal - to slow down the development of overly βzealousβ branches. In this case, an incision is made not above, but below the selected bud or branch.
Council
Before kerbovku, you must imagine its consequences: would not escape, grown from a sleeping bud, interfere with the rest of the branches?
