LIVE BORDER BY OWN HANDS - MASTER CLASS AND PHOTO
When it comes to a cropped curb, the box comes to mind first. He has really proven himself in this role, but recently he has been increasingly suffering from attacks of pests and diseases. Therefore, we suggest that you find an alternative, such as Forchun holly, Forchun's euonymus or the 'Bloombux' dwarf rhododendron, as in our example.
1. To start along the planting line, dig a trench in 30 cm wide and deep. It is easier to do than to dig separate planting holes for each plant. In addition, in the trench easier to evenly place the seedlings at the same height.
2. Partially remove the excavated earth - it can be used elsewhere in the garden. Then loosen the bottom of the trench well. We chose the Rhododendron micranthum 'Bloombux'. It is unpretentious and normally tolerates insufficient acidity of the soil.
3. Since it must be loose and with good water permeability, mix the excavated earth with the substrate for rhododendrons.
7. Next, the plants need to be watered properly, so that the soil is snug against the roots of rhododendrons and settled there,
where voids formed. We used rainwater because it is soft and optimally suited for mini-bushes.
8. Then distribute horn shavings. This organic fertilizer of prolonged action with its nutrients will compensate for the loss of nitrogen, which will inevitably occur after the distribution of mulch from the bark.
9. Mulching of soil around rhododendrons with bark of coniferous trees is the final stage of work. Such a layer will retain moisture in the soil, enrich it with humus and even gradually increase acidity.
10. 'Bloombux' tolerates pruning. This should be done immediately after flowering, before the plants start budding for the next season. If the flower bed or flower garden is large, mini-rhododendrons can be allowed to grow to their final size in 1 m wide and high.
1. Maple palmate - undersized tree, which takes up little space. Its bright red leaves look especially impressive against a gray wall.
A yellow-green host and a violet-pink wallflower housed in the legs of the “red of the young man”.
2. Flower strips will not look so strict if you allow the plants to overstep the boundaries of planting a little: make its outlines smoother and more diffuse. In the photo, such freedom of action is provided by the white flowered crested hen and iberis.
3. Cuff and hydrangea - an ideal pair for planting both in the shade and in the sun, but only with fairly moist soil.
If the dimensions of the track allow, the cuff can be allowed to occupy its border.
4. The tandem of the white gaura (Gaura) and the purple vervain of Buenos Aires (Verbena bonariensis) is distinguished by its long flowering. A narrow flower garden, which stretches along the path in the front garden, can be continued on the sunny side of the house.

I learned how to make beautiful borders from plastic beer bottles. Bottles of the same size (dark) are taken, filled with water up to the shoulders and dug upside down to the desired height. I fill the voids between the bottles with sawdust. Very convenient: the earth does not crumble, and there are fewer weeds. Plants bloom earlier, because the bottles are dark, the water in them heats up, and at night it gives off heat.
