Fireplace do it yourself step by step + scheme

VERY BEAUTIFUL STREET STONE TREASURE OWN HANDS
Both children and adults like to bake sausages or potatoes in the fresh air. If you do not want to acquire a fashionable grill, you can be content with an ordinary bonfire.
It is only worthwhile to allocate a special place for it and equip it correctly.
1. Bonfire
In fact, a bonfire can be built on cleared of leaves and grass, as well as a slightly indented patch of land. But it is much more convenient and more aesthetic if the bonfire site has a hard surface. This will simplify the cleaning process and allow you to light a fire even after rain.
The campfire site should be kept away from wooden buildings so that there is no danger of fire. It is also good that trees do not grow nearby: too strong a flame can burn leaves, in winter branches and roots will overheat. It is not necessary to arrange a fireplace on the border between the sites - it is unlikely that your neighbors will like this idea!
How to arrange
Usually a place for a bonfire (campfire) includes a paved area leading to the path, a bowl for fire and benches.
The fire bowl can be stationary (for example, stone, like the platform itself) or mobile (portable metal roasting pan). For a portable roaster, a fairly even paved area. The stationary bowl is more complicated to execute, but simpler and safer to operate.
How to pave the site under the fire?
It is desirable that all the elements of the fireplace are combined with the nature of the garden. In order not to oversaturate the site with various materials, it is better to use those that are already involved in the construction of paths, stairs or objects of small garden architecture.
The site must be laid out with a hard coating: granite paving stones, concrete tiles, stone, pebbles or clinker bricks.
Raised above the ground, the fire bowl can be covered with natural stone or tile. The dimensions of the site should be such that the fire is at a safe and comfortable distance for people from benches. It is believed that it is about 2 meters. there may be many bonfires - you only need to choose a solution that will meet your own requirements.
Ground below ground
A place to make a fire can be built below ground level. To do this, remove the soil to a depth of 0,5 m - stepwise, step by step, going deeper into the ground. To prevent the earth from crumbling, it is necessary to strengthen the walls around the perimeter with brick or masonry on cement mortar, and pave the area below. The edges of the "bowl" will actually play the role of seats. Therefore, in order not to sit on bare ground, a flat “edging” of stone, brick or wood should be laid around the perimeter. Wooden "seats" are the most comfortable; pillows will need to be laid on stone or brick.
Retaining wall
A good option is to place a fireplace near the retaining wall. The wall will make the campfire site more comfortable, give it a certain completeness. In addition, in this case you will be protected from the wind during friendly gatherings. If the garden has a flat topography and there are no natural terraces in it, the wall can be built on purpose. For a decorative wall, any materials that will organically look in your garden are suitable. The shape may also be any, for example round or rectangular. The main thing is that it is consistent with the shape of the fire bowl.
Bowl for fire
Sides of the bowl.
The fire bowl can be deepened and raised. In the first case, the place for a fire is deepened into the ground, bringing the edges to the same level with the paving of the site. In the second version, the bowl is raised above the ground to a height of 15 to 50-60 cm. Tall bowls are often decorated as a kind of table, the sides of which can be used for placement! or plates of food.
Bowl with sides is more convenient in operation than in-depth version. Thanks to the high sides, you will not have to bend down to throw firewood into the fire; it’s easier to put a grill on the sides.
Metal liner.
Whatever option you choose for yourself, a metal insert should be placed inside the bowl. It can be cut from a sheet of metal and bent in shape. Even simpler is to use an old iron barrel, shorting its century in the far corner of the site. It should be cut to the desired height, then buried in the ground, leaving small sides above the ground. Outside, the iron ring is lined with stone, using cement mortar for the connection.
FOR THE NOTICE
If there is no desire to build walls and an elevated fireplace, you can go the easiest way - just bridge the ground and make a fire in the center. To fry something on such a fire, you only need a grill on a tripod. But remember - this is an unsafe option, as the wind can inflate the ashes.
BUILDING A SPRING
A round platform was built near a low retaining wall, already available at the cottage. This solution has a lot of advantages. Firstly, the wall protects the fireplace from the wind. Secondly, it can be used as additional seats. To do this, a series of concrete tiles were specially laid on the upper edge of the wall.
With the help of a peg and a rope tied to it, a circle is marked on the ground.
Dig a pit in the ground under the foundation with a depth of 20 cm. After removing the ground, the bottom of the pit is leveled, carefully rammed.
A cut-off iron barrel (ring 35 cm high) is dug in the center of the platform, dipping it into the ground by about 20 cm and leaving the sides 15 cm high.
Inside the ring they remove the earth.
On the side, near the wall, they dig in a piece of rubber pipe to make a hole for the drain of water. An 10-centimetric cement layer is poured to the bottom. After the cement has set, the pipe is carefully removed.
The area around the barrel is covered with a layer of sand, level it and carefully tamped. Then the site is paved with large pebbles, laying it on a layer of liquid cement. The masonry is trimmed using the rule and a hammer and left until the mortar completely hardens.
After the cement has completely hardened, the iron ring protruding above the site is lined with natural stone, cemented with cement.
