DIY hanging wooden cabinet for small things in the country
HANGING WOODEN CABINET WITH OWN HANDS
For any serious summer resident, a big problem over time is not the availability of the necessary useful little things, but the ability to store them in one place. If you leave them "at liberty", they constantly hide somewhere every time when there is a need for them.
Tired of looking for the things I needed for technical and dacha needlework in the ruins, I made a cardinal decision: all this useful property should be kept in an organizer cabinet so that it is always clearly sorted and signed. And I was going to make this storage on the basis of an old rack (photo 1) with shelves and walls made of inch boards, sewn from the rear with plywood. To prevent it from occupying a useful place in the shed, I decided to hang it on the wall.
And to give it a serious "carrying capacity" I made two powerful suspensions from iron strips. They descend from the back to the middle of the rack height, and each has 8 holes for additional fastening. Suspension ears were released from above by 10 cm.
Then, with a circular saw with a parallel stop, he leveled the side walls, and with an electric plane he cut off the parts of the shelves protruding beyond their dimensions (photo 2). Then he proceeded to construct a door, which he decided to make in the form of a frame with cellular polycarbonate. From a dry pine board I cut out blanks without large knots, cutting off the excess with a pendulum saw (photo 3). I decided to make connections of the sides of the frame, as they say, "in half a tree."
At the same time, the end cuts were made with a fine-toothed hacksaw, and the excess was selected with a hundred, cleaning and adjusting the parts with a rasp. And then he connected all the parts, aligning them with a large carpentry square (photo 4). The joints were assembled on glue and wooden dowels, and the places for them were marked, pricked with an awl (photo 5) and drilled with a drill in wood. Between the paws of the joints, he placed pieces of gauze soaked in wood glue.

He cut the protruding parts of the wooden pins with a fine-toothed saw flush with the surface of the pieces of wood, again pressing the assembled door to the table surface with clamps and a load (photo 6). After the glue dries, I cut off and sanded the protruding pieces of gauze.
The seat for the polycarbonate sheet was made of laths. Marked with a pencil and nailed them with small nails with glue (photo 7). Well, I assembled the pen from a planed stick and two of its scraps (photo 8). I picked up medium-sized hinges for a light door. I found suitable places for them, marked out and hollowed out the grooves with a chisel for their installation.
The assembled wardrobe did not always ensure a tight fit of the door (its "origin" affected), but with the help of slats, nails and glue, it was possible to achieve the absence of large gaps (photo 9). After that he disassembled the cabinet, sanded all the details with a coarse sandpaper and covered them in two layers with PF-115 enamel. Color - pistachio.
Before applying the first layer, the enamel was slightly diluted with a solvent - for better penetration into the wood.
After the enamel had completely dried, the cabinet was hung on the wall with the help of short "crackers" - large screws with turnkey heads. I marked the place on the wall with a pencil, chalk and a tape measure with a level. I drilled holes for the "crackers" of a slightly smaller diameter than their thread. For "glazing" the doors I marked and cut out a rectangular piece of cellular polycarbonate according to the dimensions of its seat. I removed the protective films from both sides and sealed the ends of the channels with tape in three layers - from the penetration of dust and small insects. The polycarbonate itself was fixed on the door with short self-tapping screws with wide caps, and the door was equipped with a standard latch magnet.
I put all the property in jars, signed it and placed it in a strict order on the shelves of the cabinet (photo 10). The beauty! My dear wife came to evaluate the fruit of my labors, stood there, thought and said that she needed the same organizer in the country for household supplies and preparations. Better two. Well, this is the best assessment of my work. And now, on the eve of the new season, I am already selecting the blanks for the important task.
