HOW AND WHAT TO PLASTER THE OVEN
Surprisingly cozy and beautiful tiled stoves are still found in old houses. Alas, today tiles can only be found in piece samples of stoves, decorated by the hands of ceramists. Is it possible, in the absence of tiles, to line your stoves with ceramic tiles? readers often ask us. Can! The appearance on the market of elastic adhesives and mastics that can withstand sufficiently high temperatures makes it possible to do this.
An alternative is to plaster the oven.
Before plastering, the surface of the furnace must be well prepared. And before applying the mortar, the oven must be well heated so that the plaster mortar can be applied to hot walls.
PREPARING THE OVEN SURFACE FOR PLASTERING
When the laying of the furnace is completed and it has stood for at least a month, you can proceed to the preparatory work. Kiln bricks and seams are cleaned of clay mortar. This is the simplest measure that ensures a strong adhesion of the plaster to the masonry. A more reliable measure is that after clearing the joints and removing the mortar from them, nails 100 mm long are hammered into the joints, preferably at a certain angle. so that the caps protrude 5 mm. Nails are placed 15-20 cm apart and after 2-3 rows of masonry. A mesh with cells of no more than 20 × 20 mm is attached to these nails with soft wire. Thus, an additional roughness of the furnace surface is created.
Various compositions are used as solutions for plastering, adding finely chopped slag - or glass - "wool" to reinforce the solution. All components of the solution must be thoroughly mixed.
They take one part of gypsum, mix it with water until the density of liquid sour cream, add two parts of lime mortar, mixing everything thoroughly and getting the so-called winding. Density is regulated by water. The dressing is applied to the surface of the oven within 5-6 minutes from the moment of preparation, until the solution has set. Plants should be prepared no more than 2 liters.
It is impossible to mix the winding with the addition of water, since after that it does not set well, dries out, cracks and does not have the necessary strength.

Plastering is carried out along the hot walls of the furnace. They are moistened with water, then a liquid creamy composition is applied - spray. As soon as this layer sets, a second layer is applied to it - a primer thicker than the spray. It is recommended to apply layers with a thickness of 5 mm. After setting the soil, the surface is finally leveled - overwritten. If the thickness of the plaster is 15-20 mm, then the solution is applied in three steps, each time leveling the layer of the solution, so it is then easier to overwrite.
Grouting is done with a wooden or plastic grater after setting, but still a soft enough solution. If cracks form on the plaster during drying, they are cut, moistened with water and covered with the same solution and rubbed again.
It is best to paint the plaster with lime whitewash, to which it is added. mixing well, table salt diluted in a glass of water (100 g per 10 liters of whitewash). Salt gives the whitewash strength, and the whitewash does not flake off. Apply whitewash once or twice.
WHAT TO WHITE THE OVEN
Before the start of the heating season, I carefully inspect the surface of the stove. With a metal brush and a spatula, I remove old whitewash, soot, greasy stains, cracked plaster. I buy the right amount of heat-resistant plaster (for example, Emelya). I dilute to the consistency of thick sour cream. I apply the first layer up to 0,5 cm thick. The next day I lightly heat the oven. When it cools down, I apply another layer of plaster. After drying, I mix 4 packs of tooth powder and 4 egg yolks with 200 ml of milk. I leave it for 15 minutes. I apply a mass ready for painting, resembling oil paint in consistency, on the stove with a wide brush. I heat it on the second or third day after applying the composition.
TIP: If there is no suitable plaster in the store, I mix clay, sand, cement and lime in equal parts. I also dilute to the consistency of thick sour cream.
